Very nice, old-school styled single map, it's nice to see such projects in 2024. The areas are tastefully detailed without going too far and enemy encounters / weapon variety is good compared to the map length. I didn't notice any big issues or errors other than some brushes with holes in them, an acceptable mistake of a first time modder.
By the way, despite what the file says, you can still play this on regular HL, no Xash necessary, simply copy-paste it to HL folder. Overall, this is a solid run and gun experience that can be finished under five minutes, but it will be a fun five minutes. Try it.
good work
It has a lot of potential, keep up the good work
Brilliantly made game with great maps and an interesting story. I was never bored at any point in this game nor did I ever find myself confused or stuck.
I will say however, it seems to be prone to random crashing. Of course that could just be me.
A very solid 8/10 for this one! Beautiful and diverse maps, an emotional storyline, and intricate effects outweigh the clunky plot, occasionally unclear direction (thanks as always to SwankestCZ for the video walkthrough), and minimal puzzles. Give this one a try for something a little different but with the same Amnesia flavor you know and love!
Well, despite this being a very nice project as we frankly lack Military mods for BM (I also think there is an attempt to recreate the Opposing Force game for BM but it is not ready yet as I write this review); this mod felt quite poor optimized at some points. Let me better explain.
Although the battles against grunts, Vortigaunts, Headcrabs, and Zombies are OK in most chapters, and help to build up the sweet combat environment and gameplay positive tension of the classic HL1 & HL2 games, I experienced FPS stumbles right in the middle of most combat action. So yeah that's quite a turndown at points.
Also, the maps gave plenty of options to explore beyond the usual or logical pathways in them, but you find these hideous invisible walls, like in this part where Freeman falls to the water pit riding on the BM Transit System Cargo train, you even interchange some fire against him, and once he falls to the water below, your most typical reaction is to look down the pit he fell, but guess what? You can't because despite there being a big hole in the security door Freeman's Train opened, you just can not go through it because an invisible wall restricts the damn place!! So yeah those details are annoying and kind of big turn-downs about the gameplay experience, so please, if the devs keep working on this mod, get rid of those annoying invisible walls!!
Now, I have to say not everything is bad in BM-Military. No, there are many WOW moments indeed! Like these amazing battles against the 2 Gargantuas in the chapters and having the possibility to throw ATGM's to them and blow trucks was a cool detail! Also, almost before reaching the end of the last map, another WOW moment for me was to fight against the Xenian Grunts but look how the Xenian Grunts officers actually were taller and sturdier than the regular Xenian soldiers, that was cool, and I also felt they were harder to beat with regular shootings so explosives are so fun to use against them.
So, overall don't get me wrong. This mod had plenty of intense action and fun gun-shooting Half-Life Battles. But the keyword to improve the gameplay experience in this mod is "Optimization", yeah I guess with more beta testing and getting rid of many invisible walls the gameplay experience could be a 10 out of 10.
I thank and congratulate the developers for their amazing job, and I hope they improve their mod at some point in the future as it is pretty cool to battle against the one and only Freeman himself!
Good mod!
Gripping from the beginning. Excellent sound design (when it wasn't glitching and not playing after loads) and quick, but varied pacing between different enemy types to set the scene combat-wise.
I love those chair zombies that are just freaking out. Always looks like they're grabbing onto armrests and just losing their minds. I love that E.T.F. lets you observe one without it attacking you. Just gaze into that writhing chest maw and see the headcrab dance upon this poor soul's head. A double barrel to the face is the ultimate mercy.
Ranges from survival horror to outright badassery. A short mod that accomplishes a lot. Well worth a play.
Some brilliant ideas in this mod are let down by muddled execution. The compact, detailed map makes innovative use of every corner, and the story tells a sympathetic alchemical tale. I was refreshingly thrilled with the novelty of the puzzles until they became too obscure and I had to look up a video guide to find solutions (such as a key randomly dropping to the ground in a spot that is hard to see). This coupled with some bugs that froze enemies in place ultimately reduced my enjoyment, but I still highly recommend Dark Whispers to any fans who would like intricate map-driven puzzles.
This custom story has absolutely beautiful map design and an interesting story. It ended sooner than I was expecting, though, and I don't feel like any "choices" I made really had any impact short of arbitrarily choosing certain directions. I guess I could have "failed" if I went a different way, but that's not a moral choice, just a directional one. While it was beautiful to meander through, The String also lacked puzzles, being more of a walking sim. Taken for what it is, it's a great little adventure through regret, but I feel it could have been something more. Still highly recommended, very close to 9/10!
Good demo. Adds hella MW2019 guns to HL2. It's fun.
Suggestions:
-Pump the shotgun faster
-Add recoil
-The automatic guns (except for Alyxgun, AR2, & SMG1) need an accuracy buff, they make the DOOM 3 shotgun look like a sniper rifle.
If this game was not rushed, it would be one of the best nowdays, instead that tras*h greedy blizzard diablo sh i t ...
Another quality Amnesia mod from KiraImmortal!
Positives:
-Purposeful map design
-Suspenseful (and scary at times) atmosphere
-Detailed writing moves the story along
-Mostly intuitive puzzles
Negatives:
-There is no clue for how to get into the lab
-Easy to get stuck on level geometry and have to fiddle around quite a bit to get unstuck
-Awkward platforming
-Rocks are hard to see (even with 1.25 gamma) without using the lantern
All the negatives I've listed are really just nit-picks. Anything KiraImmortal makes is worth playing!
How's this for a story: Gordon Freeman is working at Valve! One night he's in his office when Gabe Newell himself sends him an email, telling him that the building has been overrun by terrorists and to meet him at the roof! We don't see wacky and fun scenarios like this anymore in the modding scene. It's all realism and seriousness nowadays. I miss mods like these.
The mapping is hit and miss. I've noticed the initial areas look better than the later ones, maybe the creator was getting bored towards the end. It also kind of stops being a mod about escaping from an office building and turns into something else. You go through sewers and labs near the end for example. Also, for no particular reason, the zombies have been replaced with Xenomorphs :)
Overall, a relic from a more carefree and fun time. It has issues, sure, but the fun factor is high and as we all know, gameplay is king.
A surprise release from the makers of Evacuation. Albeit a short but sweet one. This is basically straightforward Resident Evil style mod with a banger OST and a nice boos fight at the end. Had a good time.
Good but dead CO-OP mod.
I am ukrainian myself and really liked the idea of having to play the game with my native language audio, though, it is not a whole changing everything into ukrainian, unfortunately. I really would love to have radio changed too. Some pedestrians still speak english. Some scenes haven't being changed to ukrainian language too. And also it lacks the number of voices, I'd love to hear more different voices with different kind of speech. But still, was a pleasure to replay my favourite game.
Неплохой мод. Оценка 8/10
Но освещение ужасное
Different sp levels with some arenas and very good gameplay !
The remaster turned out to be pretty good, but the level design and mapping are quite a bit square and angular compared to Diffusion, which the author is currently doing.
