What's this?

The concept of this mod aims for maximum simplicity, allowing end-users to experience a demo-game version before September 2002. The edits were made based on Valve’s ideas, focusing on logic and map meaning.

Gaben canceled that year’s E3 show, and after the build was leaked by Axel Gembe, years of painstaking work by various authors resulted in a “gameplay” version of demo levels, including story maps.

  • Maps are arranged chronologically according to the plot of the time.
  • New enemies and weapons are introduced gradually to showcase cut content and progression.
  • Soundtracks are included.
  • God mode is periodically turned on during battle maps to prevent crashes from loading saves.

I started working on this mod for myself, but it quickly grew from an early versions to a full-fledged 1.0 release in less than a year. What a journey!

I must say that working with the engine and editing tools can sometimes make even basic tasks quite challenging, and searching for workarounds can take forever. However, despite these difficulties, I managed to accomplish most of what I set out to do.

Unfortunately, I didn't see any more content to include in this mod. This release is more of a refining of the existing features than putting a lot of extra content. I'll keep an eye out for MegaPatch 5; perhaps there will be something interesting to include. While I admit that it may not be the most technically advanced mod, I did my best to optimize it.

Sometimes, the changes are minimal, and sometimes they not. But I hope you will like them. Thank you for your support, I really glad to make this happen.

How to start the game

  1. Unpack the 7zip archive.
  2. Launch the “START.bat” file.
  3. Select “New Game.”
  4. If any issues occur, open the console (~ button), type “restart,” and press Enter. The level will restart.
  5. To play the prototype of Garry’s Mod - the Dangerted map, click on “Training Course.”

Changelog

Overall Changes:

  • All doors can now be opened using the “E” key.
  • Autosaves have been removed due to a buggy save system.
  • Difficulty adjustments were made where necessary.
  • Consider using the Physgun against manhacks; it's quite effective.
  • The death of important NPCs will now restart your current map.

Specific Location Updates:

Industrial Site:

  • Various texture fixes.
  • Proper water adjustments in the underground area.
  • Some brushes replaced with models for optimization.

Terminal Plaza:

  • Added necessary objects, including the Pendulum room and bus station.
  • Script fixes and improved Combine Soldier voices.

Kleiner's Lab:

  • Replaced the random black headcrab with Lamarr.

Sewers:

  • A new map from the 2002 mappack with improvements.

Canals:

  • The location was split into two maps for optimization.
  • Reduced the number of props and made small fixes.

Zombie Town:

  • Addressed various issues and improved the transition between d1_town_01 and d1_town_02.

Antlion Caves:

  • Fixed broken lights on the Antlion Guard (although some objects may still appear black).
  • Falling off the edge will cause a map restart.

Depot:

  • Improved the map start and added details to the depot's main entrance.
  • Other minor fixes.

AirEx:

  • Reduced difficulty, adjusted key elements for better navigation, and added more details.

Borealis:

  • No changes; everything remains as before.

Kraken Base:

  • Optimized physics props and added some animated water (though it remains solid).
  • Reduced combat difficulty and the number of stalkers.
  • Other minor adjustments.

Palace:

  • Replaced certain objects and made other minor changes.

Street Wars:

  • Added a new map based on the 2002 mappack, along with some additional scripts.
  • Made small changes to another existing map.

Citadel:

  • Various texture fixes.
  • There should be a new map, but the lack of props and detailed art references makes this map too basic to include it. If you'd like to see it, please let me know. Perhaps you can add more details to it?

Well RC5 is almost ready, there's a few things I left to do — a final render of all maps and changelog. And playtest it a little (a lot).
