Key features:
Ambal Duels is a strategy card game heavily inspired by RPGs, putting players in the center of action, with competitive and fast paced battles. You can unlock every card (skill) and Soulstone through gameplay as you level up your account and participate in seasons. Don't fret about whether you'll get the card you want; you can directly aim for it and make the build you desire.
We are developing our own engine and tools in the process (Formabble), exploring new tech and building the foundation for something bigger in the future! We are hoping to make Ambal Duels moddable, and this to be a stepping stone to creating more games with Formabble.
Ambal Duels is a direct adaptation of Ambal Tournament, an indie physical card game. We will bring exciting new features to further improve the game, but the overall experience is the same. Some reviews from the tabletop version:
Your opponent’s strategy matters as much as yours. Analyze the battlefield and outsmart other players. The tides of battle are constantly shifting thanks to blocks, interrupts and other unique mechanics, offering high replayability and evolving strategies.
During the Combat Phase, player pick which skill they want to use then both are revealed at the same time, triggering effects like blocks, heals and damage.
Two victory conditions: Deplete a player’s Health or reduce their Max Energy to 50 or less.
There are 100 unique skills spread into different types: Spells, Actions, Curses, Boons, Elites, Offensive, Defensive. Many skills have a combination of types, like a Curse Spell.
Players can construct their decks using up to two Schools of Knowledge and may only add one Elite skill into the Battle Decks. Each skill is unique, no duplicates are allowed in a deck.<!-- notionvc: d59a84ab-74d5-4102-8d5b-3a8ebdd6e6e4 -->
Players have stats such as Health, Energy, Max Energy, Mastery, Physical Attack, Physical Defense, Magic Attack and Magic Defense that offer more strategic depth, customization options and skill behaviour.
Ambal Duels will launch with four Schools of Knowledge, each representing an area of knowledge with their own set of cards and style of play. More schools and skills will be added in the future!
Assassination users that are good at predicting the opponent’s moves can deliver massive damage, punishing their choices. Curses will make the foe an easy prey for these fighters.
High damaging skills and masters of burning, these sorcerers try to build their energy fast while taking big chunks of health from their opponents.
Bleeding specialists, hitting these fighters might be hard thanks to their blocks. Sword users are fast, being able to reduce their actions Energy cost and retaliate against opponents.
Specialize in slowing their opponents and laying curses. These spell casters prove resilient with their arsenal of healing and protection skills, gradually harming foes.
While the world of Erra is vast and mysterious, humans found home in a place known as Ambal.
The land of Ambal blooms since the arrival of the Four Seasons, responsible for great changes in the landscape and aiding in the battle against Shadows and Tormented Spirits. It’s the home of different species like the immortal Yoro and the shapeshifting Tenko, all working on their own ways to purify the land’s energy and find balance with Mother Nature.
Ambal is a place rich with history. There are five capitals, and one important secretive guild—an order of warriors and scholars who retain both the knowledge and power that exists in all, while helping with security and dealing with threats.
The movement of powerful entities spurred a shift in power, and the human capitals find themselves relying on the protection offered by the secretive guild. Uncertainty dawns over the fate of humans, and how they will fare against the increased activity of Tormented Spirits while an ancient force lurks closer to the land. Could the old prophecy be a solution to their woes?
The painterly feel was inspired by concept art from RPGs, as well as traditional painting and the ink wash style. Each School of Knowledge has their own monochromatic color scheme, so every skill from the same School fits together beautifully.<!-- notionvc: 33af6073-6505-44af-9a58-573bda409cc8 -->
